August 14th --- 7:30 PM  Genealogy and the Internet

presented by: Shirley Apley from the Fort Worth Public Library

She will speak about the top 4 genealogy websites: rootsweb.com, familysearch.org, usgenweb.com, ancestry.com. Then talk about some lesser known sites and how they can help genealogists.


April 10th --- 7:30 PM  Intel   

presented by: Mr. Todd Phillips

Intel processors, and motherboards will be the main topics. The differences and improvements of a Pentium 4 system will highlighted, and the future of the Pentium III and Celeron will be discussed.

There will be an open forum for this meeting. Members will be discussing programs that they use and their pros & cons. George Miner will talk about two new programs he has tried out. They are Photo Wizard & Print Screen Deluxe.

February 13th --- 7:30 PM  Digital Photography

Our guest speaker for February will be Hermilio, a photo and video
specialist with Wolf Camera. He will discuss the basics of digital
photography. He will also talk about the variety of digital cameras on the
market and will demonstrate several models.

January 9th --- 7:30 PM  Palmtop Computing

Our speaker will be Mr. Matthew Stevens, representing the DFWPUG (Dallas Fort Worth Palm Users Group). He is also a Hardware Manager for Handango, a local retailer of handheld computing devices. Matthew will bring a variety of hand held devices for display and discuss the pros and cons of each.

      presented by: George Ludlow of Groceryworks

This presentation is for the person who does the shopping in the family. Groceryworks will take your order at their web site and deliver your order to your door. They are a Dallas based company and deliver to most of the DFW area.

Startext is shutting down dial-up services, we'll discuss what choices are available.

Rick is going to talk about the cue cat. This is a scanner that you can pickup from Radio Shack and can be used to read bar codes on products and ads. The idea is that when you scan a bar code your Internet browser will be pointed to a web site which will give you more information.

Steve is going to talk about some of the problems with new motherboards and related PC hardware. A Hardware SIG is going to meet in October and November.

Nominations will be taken for officers. Elections in October.

     The Mid-Cities PC Users' Group, in association with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter is presenting a free seminar on online investing. We will be featuring the Morgan Stanley Dean Witter website and will cover topics including: Site Navigation, Your Portfolio, Quotes, Graphs, Research, Placing a Trade, Mutual Fund Center, Extended Hours Trading, IPO Center, Wireless Trading, and Account Administration.

     Last March, Todd told us all about the latest on the Pentium III and other system architecture improvements. Be with us again for another round about the future of PC hardware.


 


DECEMBER 12 ---   TECH FORUM

     presented by: MCPCUG

     This is it. The by now near ledgendary MCPCUG Question and answer session. Bring your questions and problems to the meeting and the group will attempt to get you an answer. John Sullivan will also present a Windows 98 Tips and Tricks, and we will also have a shopping on the web seminar for those last minute gifts.

OCTOBER 11 ---   NEW HORIZONS

       presented by:      DERRICK SHELBY       WWW.NEWHORIZONS.COM

	New Horizons is one of the biggest training companies in the area. 
	They have centers in North Dallas and Southwest Fort Worth. Course 
	offerings range from Novell and Microsoft certification to basic 
	applications such as Word and Access. Derrick Shelby will outline 
	what it takes to complete the various certifications programs they 
	offer and other application training.

	The right training can make a career as an IT professional. I think
	everyone will find this presentation interesting. If you or someone
	you know is thinking about perusing an CNE or MSCE, invite them to 
	our meeting at the new meeting place. Old Bedford School, 1800 block
	of Bedford Rd. at 7:30PM. Door prize is one free day of training 
	from NEW HORIZONS.	

 

SEPTEMBER 13 --- "CREATE YOU OWN WEB PAGE"        presentated by;       Steve Turner and Anne Johnson The main presentation, is sponsored by Adobe, using PageMill 3.0. Also Anne Johnson will show us how to use HomeSite, a shareware product. The presentation will be for anyone who wants to start a web page. This will be "basics only" and we will not cover advanced topics. A more advance demo will be presented at a later date. If you want to join us in a day long workshop about publishing a web page, email Steve Turner at stevent@compuserve.com We will have a large room with a phone line. You may bring in your own computer or sit and learn. We would have sessions on scanning and working with graphics, web page design, FTP, and tips and tricks of a webmaster. I will have a sign up-sheet at the meeting or e-mail me back if you are interested. Meeting at Midway Baptist Church, 5208 Midway just East of the Belnap, Haltom and NE 28th intersection. Meeting will start at 7:30pm.
AUGUST 9 - Steve Kozak, Photographer Steve Kozak, a local computer savvy photographer, is going to show us how to Scan, Edit, and Print photographs using a computer. He will also tell how to prepare our photos for publishing on the Internet. I have tried to this with my computer from time to time and have found my results to far short of expectations. Steve promises that he can show us how to do this and will give simple instructions that anyone can follow. For our next couple of meetings we are going to have presentations on creating a personal web page and Office 2000. We meet at the Midway Baptist Church, 5208 Midway just East of the Belnap, Haltom and NE 28th intersection. Meeting will start Monday evening at 7:30. We will have drinks, coffee, donuts, and maybe some other light refreshments. Hope you can join us.

 

JULY 12 - TOM DENT, ADOBE APPLICATIONS ENGINEER

Tom will give a presentation on Acrobat 4.0 including

the interactive form feature. Adobe Acrobat is an excellent

product for distributing material in web application.


 

MAY 10 - DAVID RAINSBERGER OF SOUTHWESTERN BELL

Are you interested in a faster way to connect to the web??

Our meeting this month will address the future of high speed

data options for the home and office. This will build on last

months investigation on the cable answer to this question.

Also a short discussion on "Tax Time Computing."

MARCH 8 - THE PENTIUM III is here !!!!! - by Intel

Todd Phillips of Intel will unveil the PIII and

other system architecture improvements.

Also rusty Murrell will give us a look at what

it's like to have a cam on your computer.

Febuary 8 - February Program - "Y2K"

David A. Gray, of P6 Publishing, author of

"Year 2000 Emergency Preparedness Kit"

will discuss this important issue.


 

January 11 - Ken Higgins of MAXTOR

Ken will tell us about the current and future

trends in storage devices. Also the problems

with drives larger than 8.4 gigs.

Our second presentation, by Jason Valdez, will be

on cable modems. Door prize is a MAXTOR hard drive.
